The Recycle Bin in iGradePlus 12

How iGradePlus 12 will let you bring back anything you delete, for a full year after you delete it.

Applies to both the Enterprise SIS and the free gradebook.

Everyone has deleted something they meant to keep. The wrong assignment gets picked from a list, a class is removed a term too early, a student is deleted when they should have been withdrawn. By the time you notice, all you want is to get it back.

In version 12, you will be able to. Nothing you delete in iGradePlus will be gone for good straight away. It will go to the Recycle Bin, and for a year after it was deleted, you will be able to restore it yourself.

You delete a record
    ↓
It goes to the Recycle Bin ← out of sight, but kept as it was
    ↓
Within a year, you restore it ← back where it was, as it was
    ↓
After a year, it is removed for good

Everything you delete

The Recycle Bin will not be limited to a few kinds of record. Students, classes, assignments, and everything else you can delete in iGradePlus will go to the Recycle Bin when you delete them.

A deleted record will disappear from your lists and your gradebook straight away, just as you would expect. iGradePlus will simply keep it to one side, exactly as it was at the moment it was deleted.

Restoring a deleted record

The Recycle Bin will show what has been deleted and when. Restoring a record will put it back where it was, as it was when it was deleted, as if it had never been removed.

A year to change your mind

A deleted record will stay in the Recycle Bin for a year from the day it was deleted. That is long enough to cover the mistakes nobody notices right away — a class deleted in the spring and missed when the fall term is planned, or an assignment nobody looks for until report cards go out.

Once the year is up, the record will be removed permanently and can no longer be restored.

Deleting is not archiving

Deleting is for things that should not be there at all. When a record has simply come to the end of its use — a student who has left, an option you no longer offer — archive it instead. An archived record is set aside rather than deleted. It never goes to the Recycle Bin, it is not removed after a year, and you can bring it back whenever you need it.

Working with the Audit Log

The Recycle Bin and the Audit Log will work together. The Audit Log will record every deletion — who deleted the record, when, and what it held — and the Recycle Bin is where you go to undo it.

Deleting something in iGradePlus will no longer be a decision you have to be certain of. If it turns out to be a mistake, you will have a year to put it right.
